Welcome to Year 1!

Miss P Osbourne - Teaching Assistant

Mrs M Collinge-Cubberley

In year 1, we encourage learning through exploration and questioning. We like to keep learning as practical and engaging as possible to ensure all children in year 1 have the very best of fun. We like to capture lots of our learning through photographs. In year 1, we like to use kind words to our friends and focus lots on how we can be ready, respectful and safe in all areas of our school.

Homework:

Your child will be given a phonics book which will be tailored to their stage in reading. We ask that children read 5x a week and record this in their reading records.

Phonics / reading :

We are a Little Wandle Letters and Sounds school. Children will receive daily phonics sessions and 3 reading sessions with an adult each week. If required your child will also receive 'daily Keep up' sessions if they require additional support.

Maths:

There is lots of new learning in year 1. We like to ensure we are confident in our number formation. We use lots of different manipulatives to help us understand new concepts in maths and ensure that we are able to problem solve as well as complete arithmetic style questions. We learn how to partition, add and subtract numbers. We also begin to count in 10s, 2s and 5s.

PE Days:

Term 3 + 4 we are currently swimming at the local pool on Wednesdays. Please ensure your child has the appropriate swimming kit for this.
